Tempered glass and a case are usual buys after buying a new device. It does not matter whether it is an iPhone or Android device. In my case it’s usual because any of them are usually expensive, so it’s good to protect the screen and the rest of the device. Thanks to Pitaka, I could check their AirCase and MagEZ for an iPhone 12.
MagEZ
This one is available in 8 colours, so you’ve got many options to choose from. I decided to get the red one, even if my iPhone 12 is blue. Cutouts for every button on the left and right side of the device are made very well. I didn’t encounter any issues when I was using them to change the volume, use Apple Pay or turning silent mode by the slider.
The only problem which I had with cutouts is the fact that the top of the device is not safe when it will fall. This part should be „closed” and the bottom should remain open as it is. During testing period, I didn’t have any problem, and it even saved my phone’s screen from shattering. There was a day when my iPhone 12 fell on concrete when the case was on. Every corner of it has a bit of damage, but my phone looks the same, so it defends the device to some degree.
Even the camera bump is protected by it, thanks to „bumper” connected to the camera cutout, but it’s not ideal. If you try to touch it, it slightly moves, so this part should be done better because in AirCase it does not move at all.
Installation is easy but for the first 3-4 days I had an issue with taking it off, it was difficult but after that time I got used to it.
MagSafe works well with MagEZ as well as Apple Pay, no issues whatsoever.
AirCase
It’s thinner compared to MagEZ because it does not have a metal plate for wireless charging used with MagEZ wireless charger. I do not see a problem with that because my phone won’t be too bulky, and that’s a plus.
There’s only one colour in this line, so the case make your device stealthier than it really is. Thinner profile also helps with that, but users have to be more patient when they will try to take it off, sometimes it can bend a little.
Every corner is a bit raised, so it should protect an iPhone 12 during fall but not to the same degree as MagEZ. Handling of the device is improved with case on, and that’s a good thing because of the glass at the back of an iPhone. During usage, I didn’t feel that my device will fall from my hand when I used it.
What’s worth mentioning is the fact that both cases does not attract too much dust or anything similar. Thanks to that, there’s almost no dust around the camera bump, buttons, silent mode slider and Lightning port compared to Apple’s Silicone case or Nudient.
Conclusion
Both cases are good, and they’re similar to each other, but there are differences too. Usually they come down to thickness, available colours and compatibility with MagEZ accessories ecosystem. I did not encounter any issues using both cases with Apple Pay or MagSafe charger, but sometimes I had a feeling that MagEZ didn’t attach properly compared to AirCase. Both of them will protect your phone from landing on the concrete but bear in mind they won’t look like new anymore.
